Haloscope At Yale Sensitive To Axion Cold (Dark Matter)
HAYSTAC is a detector of putative galactically bound dark matter in the form of axions. The detector was built and is in operation at Yale University’s Wright laboratory. The detection principle is the conversion of axions to radiofrequency photons by use of a strong static magnetic field (inverse Primakoff effect);these photons are amplified and detected using quantum electronics and cavity QED techniques.
